The Walkerville Foreshore Reserve

The Walkerville Foreshore Reserve encompasses  41.3 hectares of coastal Reserve along about 3.8 km of the coast at Walkerville on Waratah Bay in South Gippsland.   The Reserve protects important natural, cultural, heritage and landscape values, and provides an attractive and peaceful setting for informal recreation and relaxation.

Information on most areas of the reserve can be found below. The exception being the Camping  Reserve which has a dedicated page.

Walkerville South Beach

This is a small, safe family beach with limited parking. During the busy summer period access can become congested. The better option is to park in the car park above the beach and walk along the track down to the beach. You will pass the toilets on the way to the beach.

Vehicles are only permitted on the beach to launch boats. Boat trailers are to be parked on the north side of the boat ramp and vehicles removed from the beach. At no time are vehicles to be parked on the beach or driven along the beach between North and South Walkerville.

At Walkerville South for safety reasons NO VEHICLES are permitted on the beach from 25th December until after the  Australia Day weekend.

A network of walking tracks provide access from the main Walkerville South beach (colloquially known as 1st beach) to to 2nd, 3rd and 5th beaches.

These tracks are have lovely views and are particularly useful at high tide when access to 2nd beach at beach level is no longer possible

The track to 3rd beach provides access to Bird Rock and Blue Pool.

The track to 5th beach has great view across the bay and leads to rocky beaches to the south.

Walkerville North Beach

Walkerville North beach provides a convenient location for boat launching. There is a beach access ramp and dedicated parking for boat trailers.

At no time are vehicles to be parked on the beach or driven along the beach between North and South Walkerville.

Walkerville Hall

The Walkerville Hall provides a community gathering place on the beachfront at Walkerville North. It is the venue for Walkerville Foreshore Committee of Management meetings and is used from time to time by various other groups.

It started life as a boatshed at Walkerville South and was dismantled and moved to its current location by committee members in 1955.
